I haven't tried any of the suggestions, but I did try Google: This is the serach I did: .mts file converter free Hope this helps, Let us know how you get on. By the way, should this go into the AV forum, as it's a video file, or am I being pedantic?

I tried Google. It seems everybody wanted me to convert to wmv or something else in order to edit. The camera will do motion jpeg if necessary, so that seems silly. Besides, I though AVCHD was THE thing.
As several people on here have mention owning Pana compacts, I thought somebody might already be on it.
I've just ordered an FZ-38 for work and need to figure out how to edit videos for the website and my forthcoming YouTube channel.

Looks like you'll be stuck doing a conversion prior to editing for the time being. I can't find anything about editing that format (first time I've heard of it, tbh) that's free or easy.

Have you had a look at Blender? A quick look around suggests it might work as there is a mention of needing BlenderAVC to handle the file type you mentioned.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

I checked out Blender, but it looks crazy complicated to me. It's not a video editor in primary purpose and I couldn't figure it out at all. Spent a while yesterday on it. Gay.
So none of the several TZ7 owners on here edit their HD movies?

The software Pana give away with their cameras (got it with my TZ7) supports .mts AVCHD. I cant for the life of me remember what it is called though (at work so cant check).

What type of PC do you have? I can't see it explicitly listed on iMovies list, but there are threads in forums where people are seemingly importing stuff into Windows Live Movie Maker fine.

That'll teach me to ignore CDs in the boxes of stuff! I didn't want any useless tat, so I ignored the two CDs and just carried on with my card reader and USB mass storage. Now I've dug the CD out, it seems there is a lot of shash!! However, I'm installing PHOTOfunSTUDIO. Thanks. Edd, I'm running Win7 x32 at work. I have a C2D @3.16Ghz with 4gig RAM. Hoping it'll be fine. I have v4 HD as well Does anybody else here shoot video, or are you all purists?

Mr. Miners has been known to shoot the odd bit of video on his Canon DSLR and I'll be doing some when I get my iPhone4. My mate is a professional editor so he's done his fair share of HD shooting in his time too. Mark

I'm shooting video on my DSLR this weekend at a friends wedding. I'm quite nervous about it. Lots of tech being used, by myself, so lots of potential for things to go wrong. 2 cameras, an XL2 and my DSLR - which I'm probably going to try and manually focus off a tiny screen on the back of the camera. Oh, and a DAT machine being fed by two Sennheiser mics as the camera audio is rubbish.

I'd love to have a go, but all my video gear is SD.
When I've scraped together enough for a new DSLR...

Cool. It'd be nice to see some other peeps footage if they ever upload/finish it. The last time I did anything decent was in school as part of my Drama GCSE. From what is basically a large compact, the video on the Pana seems bloody good. Good luck with all that gear, Al! I haven't even seen a DAT machine in probably five yrs, let alone played with one. I'm sure it'll all be fine
