Pickles accuses watchdog of bin collection 'conspiracy'

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/politics/10346895.stm

Quote:
Communities Secretary Eric Pickles has accused the spending watchdog of "cajoling" councils to have fortnightly bin collections, to cut costs.

He said he was asking the Audit Commission to withdraw guidance which he says was part of a "conspiracy" to kill off weekly collections.

It is thought about 160 English local authorities collect bins fortnightly.

The Audit Commission says it does not impose inflexible rules; it merely recommends cost-effective practices.

I am wondering how many will realise the importance of Pickles the dog?

It's strange really, the Tories reckon it's their policy to oppose fortnightly collections, and yet I can name several Tory-controlled authorities where they've changed to fortnightly collections.

Fortnightly collections would be fine by me. Between us we don't even fill half a bin in 2 weeks so a family of 4 should be fine.

Any more you should pay.

Yes but is it is a bin conspiracy. I have no issue with the frequency of collection. It is free as part of the council tax and so we should be willing to adapt to keep the council taxes down.

A bin conspiracy...

Of all the things to conspire about bins are pretty low on my radar TBH.

Aye, if you can only see conspiracy in refuse collection then you really are missing the bigger picture. :D
