I think we'd beat the Germans. However, as they're my sweepstake team and will net me £40 if they win the cup, I'd rather we play someone else.

I thought Ghana played well, they looked very threatening, but couldn't quite finish off the moves.
Bring on the Germans, should be another nailbiter.

Yep, definitely a nail-biter on Sunday! Germany are going to be England's first real test of the World Cup 2010, I just hope we will see plenty more of what we saw today.

Yep. We played well today, and could have been 3 up at half time. We looked good as a team and movement along the flanks actually looked good for the first time. Thing is - that was Slovenia - the smallest nation in the Cup and a far cry from the Germany side that thumped Australia 4-0 last week. I just hope that we go out and play with the passion we showed last night, and the passion that an England V Germany game deserves because we seem to do a bit better when we actually look like we care! (Funny that.) Either way, we can beat them, and wouldn't it be sweet if we did. 2 World Wars and 1 World Cup....

Thing is when have England ever played well when they were expected to breeze it? The final 16 is a knockout round, crunch time for everyone. Even yesterday as an almost knockout round in itself saw an improvement. Would we consider Spain an easy target after losing to Switzerland? No. There are no easy groups in the World Cup, nor easy teams. I'd rather have a path to the final of Germany, maybe Argentina, maybe Portugal than I would 3 teams we were expected to roll over. We raise our game against proper competition. People talk of Germany but then don't forget they have lost, to Serbia. Serbia the team to come last in their group, a nation of 7 million. A good side Germany are, unbeatable they are not. In any case, all the matches will be tricky which means we have the saving grace of the media not being able to go to either extreme of saying that England are either atrocious or that we must obviously be the potential winners. Can't wait for Sunday. Personally, I'm looking forward to a good match. TBH the old world war blah blah verbals is getting a bit long in the tooth.

I watched the USA game live yesterday instead of the England game.
IMHO (with the possible exception of last night) England have been rubbish and don't deserve to progress. The USA have worked extremely hard and are by far the more worthy team. Weirdly, when it comes to football, we're the complacent ones and and they continue to create chances and play athletically, right to the end of every match.

Be realistic, they've not been rubbish. They've not been good but then we've not lost and in 2 of the 3 matches we've made countless numbers of chances. France were rubbish. Spain, Italy and Germany have had rubbish matches, rubbish because they lost and Italy because of their draws. It's the last 16, different kettle of fish all together. I wish people and the media would keep things in perspective. Edit: Yesterday we beat Slovenia (FIFA rank 25). Spain lost to Switzerland in the 1st round (FIFA rank 24). Germany lost to Serbia (FIFA rank 15) and Italy drew with New Zealand (FIFA rank 78). Perspective!

Well Emily is just being selfish. England do not get to play Germany in the world cup every day.

I'm already getting stick at work about it! I didn't even know they were playing each other...
