Fair enough like. Android gets round the problem of failed OS updates by just making people stick with a three version out of date OS on brand new phones... . Me & brother have both upgraded our iPhone 3G. As far as I know his went fine, mine had one odd thing - if I went into iPod I could see the music listed in the playlists and songs pages, but the artists and albums pages were both blank. A resync from iTunes this morning seems to have cured that. Took bloody ages (as in about 3 hours) to actually do the upgrade though. Jon

When it had finished, it had automatically set a rose as my background image! So I don't have a choice about whether I want an image or not... Will try photographing a sheet of black paper at midnight and use that!

I'm glad I didn't see this thread before I updated my 3G yesterday!
Actually, apart from taking a couple of hours, it was probably the most seamless iPhone o/s upgrade I've done - it even remembered my APN settings, which is a first.
I wonder why lots of people had problems and whether there is some common cause - a rogue app perhaps?

That's blocked by my work's firewall. Can you give me a quick summary please?

Well it has cause SWMBO a few issues on her 3GS I backed up & Synced the phone
Did the update
Thought no issues until she looked for number in the address book that she would not normally use – it had during the update synced with my outlook and replaced the numbers with an old contact list
OK a pain but not the end of the world I thought just restore from the back up – but it looks like Itunes as deleted all the “old” backups prior to the update – so she will now have to try and re-create her contacts
A total SNAFU not what I would expect from Apple – I pay a premium for one of their products and expect better quality s/w as a result

How can that be? All the Apps have been approved by Apple as being of the required quality.

Battery life looks like it has improved with the update...

Do you have a 3GS, Nick? I'd suspect it's okay to do so if that's the case. I wouldn't do the 3G though (indeed I didn't on the 3G I had before getting the iPhone4). Mark

I have a 3G so perhaps it would be wise to wait a little longer, as you say.
I don't get most of the new features anyway!! :lol;

I've updated my 3G. When the process finished, I was left with the USB cable screen on the phone. The pc couldn't see the phone, so I couldn't restore. After some prolonged pissing about, I installed iTunes on a laptop and managed to activate the phone again, after which my pc could see the phone and I could perform a restore (finally). That is when I found out that the backup I did before the update didn't restore a whole rake of new contacts I added to the phone last week.
Pretty shoddy effort TBH.
