It'll go on for years. There'll be a lot of victims that haven't come out yet. As they do it will always be news.
Even if there were no new victims from now on (which you can debate all you want), previous victims will always be there.

Quote:
Pope Benedict XVI himself has been accused of being part of a culture of secrecy, and of not taking strong enough steps against abusers when he had that responsibility as a cardinal in Rome.

However, his supporters say he has been the most pro-active pope yet in confronting abuse.

This about sums up that attitude:
Image

The Catholic verson;
Man: Thanks to Pope Benedict XVI, peadophile priest convictions are up 100%
DIlbert: Question: Are you asking a room full of non-clergy to be excited about a big increase over a trivial base?
Man: You leave me no choice but to give you teh stink eye
Dilbert: Ow! Ow! make it stop!

Yes but Belgium had serious problem with a paedo ring a few years ago with children being passed from one to another. Must be something about Belgium.

For a church that preaches the good of confession.... they don't half have to be forced to disclose a lot.

How many Hail Mary's does a priest have to do now? ;)

I rather think it is the fact that they may have to rather more than just 'hail Mary's' that is stopping them disclosing the full amount of what they know....
And don't get me wrong, I couldn't care less whether they tell the general public or not, but they just don't seem to be making themselves accountable to anyone...

They don't need to, their accountability lays "elsewhere" which means that they can do what the hell they like.

Don't I just know it. Like so many things in the catholic church, there is a very clear, solid biblical principle for accountability, and they cast it aside and do it their own way.

Well they are the "tools" by which the rules are passed onto us mere mortals.

Apparently, in Mexico a prominent Catholic Bishop blames erotic TV and internet pornography for the child abuse committed by Priests. Not sure how seeing two adults at it would be reason for them to start looking at the choir boys differently.

Yes the priests are clearly watching the wrong channels. I would have thought that they got the News and the God Channel or are the God and Porn channels part of the same bundle? ;)
