I do think we agree though, we have to play better, more entertaining football, if we are to progress. All the teams that do do well in the end have to entertain as it takes good football to win.

Indeed :)

Ok, potential shock for tomorrow?

I can see Brazil beating Portugal and I can see Drogba et al putting a shed load past North Korea. Ivory Coast to take Portugal's spot on GD?

Or, I can see Switzerland beat Honduras and I think Spain could have a tricky time against Chile. Afterall, Chile qualified 1 point behind Brazil ahead of Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay.

Interesting day tomorrow. :D

I think your results are right but I can't see DPR taking another 7 goal tonking. I think that was a bit of an aberration and I think they'll be keen to bow out with a bit of dignity. I do think it's possible Brazil will put a few past Portugal and the Ivorians will beat DPR but I don't see the GD change being big enough to deny Portugal a place in the last 16.

All the south american sides have played well IMO. But look at it this way - Chile vs Spain is a play-off to see who doesn't play Brazil in the last 16. Given Chile can't be as defensive as Switzerland (or at least, it's not the game plan they're used to) I can see Spain edging that one. However, should that not be the case, Switzerland stand a chance of nicking the second spot from Spain. If the three major european national powers (the two finalists of the last world cup plus the best team in Europe by FIFA rankings) don't make it past the group stage but all the South American teams do, what does that say about where the real power in world football lies?

Always the way, once it gets to the point where teams start getting knocked out.

Yep, definitely a nail-biter on Sunday! Germany are going to be England's first real test of the World Cup 2010, I just hope we will see plenty more of what we saw today.

I'm already getting stick at work about it!

I didn't even know they were playing each other...

Yes and you cant retaliate with the usual Two World Wars, One World Cup Doo Dah bit either. :D

No, but you could politely point out that the last two times Germany have played England, England won....

The last competitive International match was in 2002, 5-1 drubbing of Germany in Berlin in the 2002 World Cup qualifiers. :D

I'm really looking forward to Sunday. England haven't clicked into gear but have improved and not loast a match yet, Germany played really well in one match and then were not as impressive. It's set up to be interesting.

That's the great thing about the last 16, from here on in teams really have to go for the win. :D

I think the game on Sunday will open up more as teams go for the win. Hopefully players like Rooney will find they have more space. The same goes for the Germans though too I guess. Given that they've only put in one good performance so far (IMO) I think we stand a very good chance.

That'll be fine by me. During the qualifying I got into the strange mindset of really not minding if we were 1 down at half time. We always seemed to come out and find yet more goals.

Hopefully that pattern will return.

Portugal v Brazil. Pretty lame at the moment.

Ivory Coast already 2 up on North Korea.

I'm really happy with the ref in the PvB match. Brazilian handball, but at the halfway line, and he got a yellow. Four Portugese chased the ref asking for a red so the ref gave the loudest shouter a yellow card.

About frakin time.

Edit: Even better, Portugese player carded for diving trying to get a penalty after Brazilian brushed shirts.

+1, I laughed when I saw it in the live game. I laughed again during the ITV highlights, again when I switch over and it was playing on the BBC match of the day and I laughed again when I looked at it in picture form in the morning paper the following day..... Come on JP that's the spirit.

TBH neither Brazil nor Portugal are playing for the draw and neither of them look like they're unbeatable.
