Can I possibly start a sticky for recommended iPhone apps. I've got a few to start the list and I'll add to the list as people add suggestions. PM me with suggestions and I'll add the to the list. Please provide a name, link and short description/review of the app. GamesBloons TD (2,39€), Tower defence game, based on the web based version. Works much better than the web version (web version kills my quad core Windows machine at level 60, the iPhone version runs smoothly at level 120! 1 up for native code over Flash!! Flight Control (0,79€), simple game for landing aircraft at different airports. You simply draw the approach the planes should take. Each airport has 4 different types of aircraft (helicopter, turbo prop, slow jet, fast jet), which fly at different speeds and use different runways. It has had 2 new airports added since I bought it... Globall (2,39€), tilt game, use the motion sensors in the iPhone to navigate a ball around a maze, destroying bricks for points (collect multipliers to increase score), collecting gold coins for extra lives and avoiding creatures and spikes. Powers-ups allow you to take out the monsters. Styx (0,79€), great little game, use your finger to link bubbles together to eliminate them, sort of a mix between SameGame, Bubble Bobble and Tetris. EntertainmentBig App Show (free), Adam Curry (former MTV VJ, owner of Mevio, presenter of No Agenda & the Daily Source Code podcast/stream) presents a daily iPhone app in video form, description of how it works, rates it and shows you how it works. UtilitiesSkypeMy o2 lets o2 customers view their remaining and used texts and call minutes. Bump (free), automatically transfer your details to another iPhone user by "bumping" your iPhones together - you just need to bump it into your other hand, not bash the two phones against each other!!), makes an ad-hoc wi-fi connection and transfers your contact card (you select what gets sent). Dropbox (free), allows you to access your Dropbox account from your iPhone. Evernote (free), allows you to access your Evernote account (I upgraded my account to paid for, because I was using more than the free volume each month). You can upload 5MB or so of notes, photos etc. for free each month and they go onto the web and there are apps for the Mac and Windows, or you can access your notes over the web interface. I used it for an inventory of our IT kit, putting the asset tags on the kit and photographing them, along with the serial numbers, by the time I got back to my desk, Evernote on my PC had updated and I could type the results into the database. It also has an OCR service available for converting images into text. Google Mobile App (free), includes voice search. It has some nice utilities, but the voice search is probably the one I've used most, call it up and speak in your search query and you get the results. Useful when walking around and you need a specific address or something for a shop, for example, you don't have to worry about typing in the address, whilst walking... Network Ping Lite (free), progressively pings the addresses in your subnet, listing those addresses which respond. Useful for network testing. The pro version costs 2,99€ Remote Desktop Lite (free), allows you to log into a Windows PC, Mac or Linux machine using the RDP protocol. The pro version costs 4,99€, but I haven't needed anything more than the free version offers so far. Social NetworkingFaceBook - Does what it says on the tin. Although I have found that you can't get to group pages and stuff. Twitter - The official iPhone Twitter client. TwitBird a free twitter client. Trillian, which is 3,99€, I also bought the Astra account, which allows me to create a central Trillian account and when I log that in, it automatically downloads all my other IM account details (Live, AOL, Google, Yahoo, etc.) and logs them in. LinkedIn (free), allows you to access your LinkedIn account. MusicProductivityLifestyleAroundMe (free), which lists services, shops etc. in my area. ReferenceTravelSportsNavigationNAVIGON select Telekom Edition (free), probably not available in the UK, it was a free download for T-Mobile customers in Germany, works very well. The normal version costs 44,99€ for your country, 89,99€ for the whole of Europe (German prices). Health and FitnessRunKeeper Free - This is a running/training app that tracks any training you do using GPS and records it with full map data and gives stats like pace, distance, calories burned, etc... Sleep Cycle Alarm Clock - detects your movement through the night to map your sleep (deep sleep, REM sleep, etc...) then wakes you up at the time you requested but waits until you are naturally cycling to REM or light sleep before setting the alarm off. NewsPocket No Agenda (2,39€), all profits are donated to the No Agenda webcast/podcase with Adam Curry and John C. Dvorak. Great if you are a fan and want to know what is "really" happening in the world, as opposed to what the media wants you to know. PhotographyFlickr : free official app for the photo sharing 'site. Camera+ (0,79€), enhanced camera app, with zoom and a lightbox, which allows you to apply some simple preset filters. Good fun. Also tries to implement anti-shake, which works reasonably. (from Mostly Lisa) Astronomy Picture of the Day : Free. Browse through decades of hi res NASA images. A new image is added every day. Format126 : Free. Inspired by the 126 film format and associated with low-end point-and-shoot cameras. A digital manipulation application that saves as a separate image so the original remains untouched. PS Mobile : Free. Photoshop.com mobile for iPhone. Gorillacam : Free. Application which offers many features for photography on the iPhone but I got it primarily for the image stabilisation feature. Financebarcoo (free), which scans barcodes and searches for descriptions and prices on the Internet. BusinessEducationWeatherBooksStanza (free), download books - both free and paid for. I use it for downloading classics to read when I am in waiting rooms etc. Medical

I thought we already had one of these threads. If we don't then this could get messy, because there's loads of different apps out there that do very similar things, take Twitter for example, there must be hundreds of apps that act as a client for that that service. But it's your baby now, Oli. (8+) Flickr : free official app for the photo sharing 'site. TwitBird a free twitter client. SkypeMy o2 lets o2 customers view their remaining and used texts and call minutes. I'm sure there's more but I can't think right now. Mark

I tried the Tweetie (now Twitter) app, but it is very restrictive. I use Tweetdeck, which also runs on Mac OS and Windows (unfortunately, it is an Adobe Air app, but it is the best client I've come across). What I really like is the integration with other me social media services as well and you can create a single Tweetdeck account, which logs you into all of your social media sites automatically, with just one credential on each new machine. Trillian, which is 3,99€, I also bought the Astra account, which allows me to create a central Trillian account and when I log that in, it automatically downloads all my other IM account details (Live, AOL, Google, Yahoo, etc.) and logs them in. AroundMe (free), which lists services, shops etc. in my area. barcoo (free), which scans barcodes and searches for descriptions and prices on the Internet. Big App Show (free), Adam Curry (former MTV VJ, owner of Mevio, presenter of No Agenda & the Daily Source Code podcast/stream) presents a daily iPhone app in video form, description of how it works, rates it and shows you how it works. DailyBurn and Foodscanner are good if you are watching your weight...
Subcard is good if you go to Subway a lot...
Sky News - Wales doesn't seem to exist as far as it is concerned, but you can watch live broadcasts through it.
DoFMaster is good for us photographers...
Gorillacam adds functionality to your iphone camera...
Batterymaster - for seeing how much battery life you have left on talk, wifi, audio, video, standby and apps...

Just a suggestion to the thread, would it not be tidier to PM Oli, then he can update the original OP? If we have lots of people posting it could get messy and duplicates could start to appear. If Oli could spare the time, he could keep the OP in categories e.g. "social networking", "Communication", "Photography", etc. Or even adhere roughly to the Apple categories...
Just a thought...

Sounds good to me. I was planning on putting them all into the OP anyway so that makes sense.

Who uses the iTunes app store Genius feature? And who finds it is any good?
It hasn't found me any great apps that I really enjoy yet.
I have another to add to the list too - Tapatalk which you can use to read/post on forums, including this one. It's not perfect, there are a few bugs, but it is updated regularly and is getting better and better.
I reckon about 1/3 - 1/2 of my posts are now through Tapatalk.

Anyone know of any six-axis apps?
I've got Real Racing which now uses the gyro for steering control and it is ridiculously responsive but it only uses one (rotational) axis.
Any that combine them all yet?

Did Steve not use some Jenga app at the WWDC to demonstrate the axis thing? Mark

There is a shooting range app that shows off the gyroscope. It is called Eliminate Gun Range
I recommend AroundMe. It uses your GPS to show you local amenities. Very useful for when the wife and I take a drive somewhere.
RedLaser which scans barcodes and gives you the best prices. This is now free as it has been bought by eBay.
ShopShop for doing shopping lists
Angry Birds: A very addictive game.

That's true, it isn't available to download though and there can be so much more done with full six axis control.

I downloaded a game called implode yesterday and played it for the first time today - it's pretty good fun, and the first ten levels are free!
