Indeed. I definitely enjoy watching documentaries about WWII tanks in HD... ... with my german fiancée "But it's in HD, what's not to like?"

Yeah, but that's because of the signal compression they use with standard def for sports. Football pitches on Sky look like a collection of green squares. I swear the image quality of analogue was better for sports.

Have you calibrated the sets? I mean properly - with test cards and colour filters? Because if you are using the TV as it came out of the box, it will make your eyes water and your grain bleed. They crank up the blue and sharpness to make them look better in the shop. Get it home, and you have a big screen of visual torture. Do calibrating the set makes a huge difference. I've adjusted mine - and it's HUGELY better than the factory settings. Colours look natural, there is no sharpening (this does nothing to the picture other than enhance compression artefacts) and blacks are proper black, and whites are proper white. Judging a TV on how it looks out of the box is not going ton give you a good picture of what an HD TV can do.

Ooh, does the fire spread to the rest of the set? That would be so cool. I'd even watch.

I haven't got HD, but I agree. Something nice, new and shiny doesn't look so impressive once you get used to it, then you go back the the "old" and you can't believe how [LIFTED] it looks/feels or whatever. As this is TV related, that's how I felt the first time I watched a VHS tape after watching a few films on DVD.

You hopefully all realise that the only reason I'm not impressed with HD is that I haven't, as yet, convinced the GF that we need a new telly. I do make a point of highlighting how pink the screen is getting. Ooooh, it's very pink that screen is, I'm sure it's getting pinker.

Actually, snooker is probably not great HD but it probably would be helped by surround sound. Put you on the table and hear the balls rolling around. That would be cool!

I agree flabjackboy - and let's blow up the whole damn set, not just one building!

Annoyingly it never looks good in the store, especially in DSG's stores because they don't seem to have a blind clue how to set them up. Most of the TV's share the same feed and it is shared in such a way that the further from the source you got the worse the picture gets. Plus, for best results, complete darkness helps...

Can we extend this fire to Corrie, Hollyoaks, Emmerdale and any other soap please?
