Also my flatmate and i believe JJ would also recommend and anime called "Monster" which i've not actually watched so i'll let JJ fill you in on how good he found it .

I've read the manga and thought it was very good so that will go to the head of the list.

The ones I've mentioned were simply linked to from a site that is concerned with asian horror films so they just happen to be ones I'm interested in. I'm going to try Ghost In The Machine, Appleseed and more sci-fi stuff too. Thanks for the comments and recommendations.

I loved Monster, although I've never read the manga so I don't know how it compares. Since you've read it the only thing to add is; it's 30 hours long and the ending is not the best part!

Elfen Lied is a favourite. It's visually very appealing, dark and bloody. It's also only 13 episodes, so probably a better one to start with.

"Higurashi no Naku Koro ni" was brilliant. The plot is confusing at first, but the later revelations make everything clear. I'm reluctant to give anything away, because the mystery is part of the appeal. I actually preferred the second series "Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai" which is one of the few series I gave 10/10

You may also enjoy Mnemosyne. I think they're all the darkest shows on my list

I've just watched Mayoi Neko Overrun! ep1 and I'm enjoying it so far. I'll be watching ep2 in half an hour. It seems nice and silly, although I'm finding the tsundere a little annoying at the moment. Maybe she'll grow on me, but I pretty much did fall in love with Taiga and I don't think she has that potential

AB! 6 delivered, which is good news 8-)

I'm rather lacking something serious this season with AB being the nearest thing! Saying that, I can't remember the last properly "deep" show I followed...

Cameron's trying to get that made IIRC - though Clegg says they'll have to talk about it first

No seriously, I think Jim has that on his radar. Though Avatar 2 may be a higher priority now

Just watched AB! 6 and 7... i don't really see what they're trying to do with the series and it almost feels like they're trying to cram in too much. Clannad and Kanon told very good stories whilst mixing in the humor of school and character quirks yet also had the harsh "realities" of life so to speak.

Angel Beats! seems to aim for this as well although it doesn't seem to be as well integrated/tightly woven. There's humour and story but it seems to jump from one to the other. They seemed to really rush the Vice President's (Nano'si?) story at the end of Ep6 and then did exactly the same with Ep7 and Otonashi's story. It's not that they don't have an impact, just that they don't seem like they lead into anything else or are simply there to try and evoke emotion.

Overall the series still sits at an 8 (maybe down to a very high 7) but it could be easily redeemed if they made everything come together and less... "static"?

I've just watched ep 7 and I agree about it being crammed in. The most significant things seem to happen in a flash. I feel like I missed an entire episode 6.5 :|

Manga rather than Anime (it wouldn't surprise me if it has been Anime at some point though), but you may be interested:

TBH, it got such bad reviews that I'm really not interested. It scored a pretty dire 6.4 on MAL:

Any thoughts on the end of this season and the new one coming?

I just watched the conclusion of Angel Beats. It was 100% predictable, but I would have been disappointed if it had been anything but. By the end, I wanted to hold on to Kanade for ever... but as they say; if you love someone - set them free. I can't help wondering if there will be an after story or several, and there's the potential for a sequel with all new characters. I'm still unsure who's world it is, although there were huge clues in the previous episode. However, if it ends here then that is good too. I think it's a low 8 over all.

Kiss x Sis also ended with graduation. I think it's a 7. I enjoyed it and expect to see more, but it's not something I'll get that excited about. Honestly!

I'm saving the stray cats for lunch break tomorrow :)

I've not seen a single thing in the new season to excite me. Thankfully there are a couple of series still going, so still time to discover something without going crazy from the lack!

lol, this might be the first time you've posted about a new season before me jj :o.

I've been so busy the past month(s), dissertation, exams and now graduation. I haven't really watched or finished any of the shows from last season. I'll get round to it at some point during a binge and get back to you.

As for next season, that is something i've looked at.

Have you seen the preview here? I've found i generally follow what they watch and they have rather solid picks in line with my tastes, as such, my selections for next season should revolve around:

Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakama-tachi - Sounds very similar to Toradora! and has the cast of Hayate no Gotoku!, Production company is solid as well so i'll definitely be checking them out.

The Legend of the Legendary Heroes - They mentioned that they found the manga to be entertaining so i had to track it down. Only read the first chapter (or volume) and it seems decent enough. Almost kinda like your typical Shounen affair with a mix of action and comedy, i'll see how it goes.

Seitokai Yakuindomo - Premise sounds interesting, Student Council + Comedy. Reminds me of Seitokai no Ichizon which wasn't amazing, but was fine to watch casually.

SEKIREI ~Pure Engagement~ - Thought this would be right up your street JJ, you watch the first series? Nice mix of action, ecchi, harem etc. I didn't find the first season too bad so i'll be following in on this one.

I had many things to say, but now I've watched Mitsudomoe and I've forgotten everything else

It's great.
