It depends who you ask. I would say that only important thing is to have flow from res straight to pump and cpu being the first block in the series. Other than that just set it up the way it is easiest for you case...

The radiator is designed to get rid of the heat, so it should be placed after the CPU, so it's res-pump-CPU-radiator

I disagree, surely you want want the coolest water to hit the CPU? So what I'd go for is Pump -> Rad -> CPU -> Res -> Pump.

You don't want to cool the water AFTER the CPU, you want it cooled before.

Surely you'd want the hot water from the CPU to hit the radiator so that the heat dissipates before re-entering the system?

What about the pump? It'll dump around 70% of it's heat into the water, that means the fluid won't cool as effectively, and why do you want cool water cooling your Res and Pump? They're not the part you want to cool.

I'm happy to defer to your knowledge and experience - I still use air-cooling.

Knowledge? Experience? I've got none of it, I'm thinking logically here, plus it's the advice I've been given on other forums about this very topic.
