Copilot is very good & reasonably prices.

When I went to Silverstone a couple of years ago the traffic was bad on all 3 days. Leave as early as you can.

Another vote here for CoPilot. It has everything apart from live traffic and fuel prices which is an in app purchase of £20.

Unfortunately, I don't have a smartphone at the moment, but nice idea all the same - I hadn't thought of that!

If anything, having a sat nav on the phone is better in that my wife doesn't have to carry around my old TomTom anymore in her bag whenever we went anywhere. Nor do I have to update it with the weekly GPS fix.

Well, went for the TomTom Start2 in the end, got it slightly cheaper at Halfords for £112 - must other places were £120.

First impressions...

Downloaded TomTom Home (Mac) software, plugged in and registered it. Immediately, a free UK map update was available (208Mb) so downloaded that along with updated Speed Cameras and a GPS Fix. After it installed this to the TomTom, it rebooted but went into a foreign language, without me pressing anything - which was a bit worrying! A software bug, perhaps? There were two buttons on screen in, I think, Turkish. So had to Google a translation to understand what it was asking me! Not a great start, but managed to get it back to English again thankfully.

Another odd thing is that there doesn't seem to be any volume control - just sound on or off. This might pose a problem as some of the voices are a little softer than others so might not be as good on the motorway when there's more background noise. But will have to experiment with the best voices.

Tried it out last night back from work, and although it took me a slightly odd route - one that I wouldn't have normally considered - it worked fine and got me back in a similar time to my normal route. I guess you've just got to put yourself into a different mind frame than "I know best" and put your trust in it (but still keep a bit of common sense!).

A mate of mine had a load of famous voices for his Tom Tom (most we're bad impressions).
The best by far to listen to was (the real) John Cleese. Very pleasent on the ear.
Not at all like the fake Ozzy Ozbourne. "Turn left at the f**king roundabout" got very old very quickly.

Believe one of my lecturers had that one. Had the bugger going all the way from Aberystwyth to Harwich, then Hook van Holland to the hotel in Brussels. I think there may have been some Yoda thrown in there too.
