You need too many Air-miles for a trip to Oz, plus not really cost effective. Better to use them for short haul flights.

I had a different currency so didn't know what was good value, completely different products so eating was a tad hit and miss, the fact that few people spoke English and I can hardly speak French, a different social model - things are done differently, etc. None of it is bad if you like that kind of thing, but it was just a little too stressful for me... Holidaying in the UK pretty much gets rid of all of the issues above, OK cities are fairly different to the countryside, but it's not too different.

Ok, can't say I understand but then I'm used to the euro. TBH you shouldn't let it stop you going elsewhere. There are some great places out there. A good start would be Stolkholm, beautiful city and nine out of ten of the Swedes you meet speak great English. It really is worth it.

Tittle should be "ten times as many people can now afford foreign holidays compared to in the 1970s, because life has never been so easy".

Quite. But then a headline like "Two thirds of parents are having their summer holidays as planned 'cos they're doing just fine, thanks" probably wouldn't be so attention-grabbing.

What sort of holiday can you get for a mother and two kids for under 40€?
