No - you can use solvent-weld fittings but without the solvent - just dry-fit them together. They won"t necessarily be watertight (though they can be remarkably resilient - don't ask how I know that...) but they"ll be a lot stronger than the 'push-fit' stuff and there'd be absolutely no problem putting another 'T'-piece in the upright to attach a low cross-bar with solvent-weld fittings that are dry-fitted ('scuse the clunky English - it's late and I'm on the outside of a bottle of merlot...) Back when I took pictures for a living, canvass backgrounds were always stored on a roll - either a cardboard-core from a paper background, or often a length of 21/2" drainpipe; the canvass was simply taped onto the core, and never fully unrolled. Cheers, Pete

Solvent weld, without the solvent. Ohhhhh Kayyyyy... I didn't know that. For the MK 1 model, I am still very impressed, but I will look into that for MK 2 model, which I will look into once I get a lot better at portraits. Just don't tell the wife. Yet

For the o-ring connectors you seem to have done a good job at a very reasonable price. If it works then no need to worry about solvent weld.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

I had to read that three times before I read it correctly. Hey John, this is looking like a really cool, worthwhile thread. It's really good of you to post all the details like you are. A totally worthwhile thread and I'm eagerly looking forward to seeing the construct erected and in use. Mark

Back on topic... I have sketched out a couple of design improvements which will cost no more than £10.94. It might take a couple of weeks to sort out though, as I have been told I have to do some non-photographic stuff this weekend... Bloody gardening! *grumble*
