i stopped using eBay some time ago as it was becoming evident that users were trying to up the price by bidding themselves
and as far as i am concerned eBay is used by me as a price comparison site …

TBH I never knew shill-bidding was a crime (against eBay policy sure, but not a crime), and I'm in the field. :?

It looks like they've had him under the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations, I'd like to know what the alleged offence on the Information presented to the court was.

I never knew what it was called. It is unethical even if you do not know it is illegal. Bidding on your own auction to bid up the price for anything, must be illegal.

I have been asked by a friend to keep an eye on one of his auctions. I would have bid but I fell asleep, it was for a digital photo-frame. It went dirt cheap but no rules were broken, as I would have definitely bought it. I would have saved on the delivery as he could have dropped it over the next time we met up. :D
