Priest 'stole $1.3 million in church money to pay for male escorts and hotels'

Quote:
The Rev. Kevin J. Gray, former pastor at Sacred Heart/Sagrado Corazon Parish in Waterbury, Connecticut, was arrested and charged with first-degree larceny, Waterbury police said. Arraignment was expected Tuesday in Waterbury Superior Court.
Gray, 64, used the money to stay at such hotels as the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City and on expensive clothing labels including Armani suits, said Capt Christopher Corbett. He also paid the college tuition and rent of two men he had met, Capt Corbett said.
"We are deeply saddened by the events which have recently had such a profound affect on Sacred Heart/Sagrado Corazon parish," the Archdiocese of Hartford said in a statement.

Hold on! This shows that not all Catholic priests are paedophiles. That must be good news? :D

That sounds remarkably like the irish catholic children's homes. Drugging them to keep them docile for the employees. I think that the whole sector needs looking at with tougher rules. Only problem is that costs councils money, and will the government provide the funds? Probably not.

Crikey that is horrific.

Particularly this section:

Quote:
Despite the out-of-court settlement, the woman still wants an investigation into why she and 18 other girls who she believes were also drugged at the home, have had children with birth defects.

I hope she (they?) doesn't give up and get their investigation.

I can only guess that the multiple birth defects resulted from the massive doses of drugs.

The girl entered the home at 14, so it's unlikely to be caused by genetic defects due to the father who was the father of her child also being her father or other such inbreeding.

It does concern me however, most pay-offs like this come with a non-disclosure agreement. It seems likely she's in breech of this and won't actually see any cash. That's her decision though, and lets hope the truth outs.

The fact that they wanted a gagging order is an admission that they screwed up beyond belief. Though the fact that no one is interested from the government to charge anyone shows that this problem is possibly widespread.

"unwanted" children are the most at risk, because people think no one cares.

I'm sure it's rife, and not just within the churches.

Yes the drugs and infant abnormality case is at a council run care home. If this were widespread they would be facing a huge legal claim.
