Seems pointless to me (all of it), and I hope we don't lose our MILFs as a result

They might find that they lose all their guests. None will want to travel up from London to appear. It will be a pointless move.

Well, that's good then. No more fawning over pointless celebrity and bit more emphasis on news.

In my dreams.

Yeah - because all celebrities live in London.

Far from it but those from abroad will not go to Salford.

Move it. If celebrities decide not to get a free plug on their latest book or album by not going to Salford then who really gives a toss.

I think you've underestimated the stamina of the media-hungry "celebrities" wanting to plug their latest book/film/play/TV series/game show/wedding/whatever*

*delete if inappropriate

Besides, Manchester's hardly the back of beyond, it's less than two hours on a train from London - less if they fly. Let's face it, most "celebs" will travel further than that if they want to publicise their latest piece of tat. I don't think it will affect the level of "celebrity" guests at all, they only appear if they have something to sell us.

I'm all for making the media less London-centred - and not just because I live in Manchester - I just think it will be good for most media people to realise that the UK doesn't cease to exist outside of the M25 - and it ain't that grim oop North!
;)

There was a lot of this when the move to the Media City development (and the reshuffle of departments at Aunty) was first announced. An awful lot of "but.. but.. but.. where will I get a capuccino? It's all grey and dirty and full of people with flat caps and enormous smoking chimneys and children with rickets. Dahling, I couldn't possibly!"

Good for once, the beeb higher ups basically said 'go with it or push off' and surprisingly enough very few of them were actually willing to give up (occasionally very overpaid) secure jobs to stick to the principle of staying in their beloved capital. As with them, with the slebs. if they're so pig-ignorant and selfish enough to throw a tantrum if they have to go outside the M25, I really won't miss whatever it is they were planning to say anyway.
