On my new ISP (Plusnet) I have the option of turning interleaving off myself, but it can't then be set back on again.
I've always had interleaving off until about 2 months ago when BT applied it automatically. In a support call to my old ISP Eclipse, I was told that interleaving is only applied when the exchange equipment picks up line issues and it is applied automatically.
Obviously this is having the standard effect on my ping; it's increased from about 15-20 to about 40-60. No big shakes, but I still wonder how much of a difference turning it off will make. Sure, my ping will go down....but could I then start suffering bad loss issues?
Has anyone else turned off their interleaving and wished they hadn't? What effect did it have on non gaming applications? I imagine that streaming could be quite badly affected.
Incidentally, I can't see why there should be an issue which requires interleaving to solve anyway. I live about 1/8th of a mile from my exchange anyway, I can practially see it from my house!
