Quote:
The government has revealed that many part-time public sector workers earning less than £21,000 a year will have their pay frozen for two years.

Ministers had previously indicated workers earning less than £21,000 would get a salary increase of £250 as part of efforts to protect the low paid.

Ministers have said a pay freeze will prevent more jobs from being lost.

But unions have said public sector workers are paying the price for a financial crisis not of their making.

In last month's Budget, Chancellor George Osborne said he would protect the lowest paid by exempting public servants who earned less than £21,000 from a two-year pay freeze.

But the government confirmed on Tuesday that part-time workers on less than £21,000 a year would also have their pay frozen if the equivalent full-time salary for their job exceeds the £21,000 limit.

It's not a pay freeze, it's a pay cut when you take inflation into account. Cameron admitted as much on the telly a few weeks ago when challenged about it by a studio audience member.

Remember - he took a pay cut of 5%. I'd like to know how that inconveniences him. I bet it has a minor impact on his personal wealth.

It wont inconvenience him one bit. Youll find all the political party leaders of the main parties are very wealthy individuals. IIRC clegg is a multi millionaire.

Whining bastards. I'd be happy with a pay freeze... (Well, those left at the company, after the redundancies anyway.) They will be getting a 10% pay cut this year. You know what? That is the result of a financial crisis not of their making either!

Although they might complain that they are having to “pay” for someone else’s mistakes it was something that even if the crutch had not happened was going to happen re jobs losses
The Government had been living like a chav with a fist full of credit cards – sooner or later you have to either pay them off, which means less spending or go bankrupt
Governments can ( and have) gone bankrupt but assuming we don’t want to be in a recession for the next 20 yrs then the only other way is to cut spending and that means getting rid of some of the hundreds of thousands of extra jobs created.

In the end if I am offered either a pay freeze or a 10% chance of losing my job then I will take the pay freeze

Yes but as Prime Minister he can look forward to a healthy final salary pension index linked to RPI, that will have been set in stone. He will make a fortune working in the City afterwards doing the celebrity talk circuit and the obligatory autobiography which will probably net him millions more so why worry about a 5% pay cut when that is still in the top 2% of pay nationally.
