While this could be in the news section I thought that it would have more resonance here.

I do agree with some of that - particularly the inability to avoid rumble strips or indicate.

However, after being in the car with my brother driving, I'd rather be driven around by a blindfolded, drug-addled, pink-clad, pop-princess slapper ned-wife with a death wish.

I have to say I find the complete opposite to be true, which is good as I don't have a driving license, so we would be proper buggered if I was that scared!

Although the list of complaints could just as easily be applied to men as well as women, I feel inclined to agree that it is harder to relax with women drivers than men. That said however I find it very hard to relax when anyone other than myself is driving.

On re-reading I'm inclined to agree tbh.

In my experience, the colossally inconsiderate ar*e-bandit tailgating me at 70 mph whilst flashing headlights and talking on a mobile only to cut me up at the next junction is usually a man.

There's a guy at work who I will never be a passenger with having been in his car once. This is a guy who managed to roll his car into a ditch at the side of the road... a straight road with almost no one else on it.

There's another guy at work who, on the motorway, constantly accelerates to about 83mph and then decelerates to 77 then up to 83 and down to 77. It gives the effect of being in a boat on a rough sea. It took all my concentration to not throw up.

There is a woman at work who ticks several boxes on the list though. Late braking and heavy acceleration are her habits.

My other half spends the vast majority of the time on the wrong frickin' side of the road!

She must be good at driving in the Uk then.

Geekette's a great driver. There's no problem with me having any sort of nervous anxiety when I'm a passenger in the car and she's driving.

Dunno. I've never seen her drive in this country.

Faye is an excellent driver. I was a tad scared when I first started going out with her as she does do the limit where she thinks it's appropriate, and 60mph around some of the lanes here does feel dangerous, but you soon realise it's not.

I've found that since I've started driving again myself, her driving has gotten to me again, she seems to get too close the the side of the road. However, I didn't think she was too close six months ago. I think this is all because I've driven in the last six months and feel more comfortable on the other side of the car.

Uh oh!

I used to work with a woman who, by her own admission, was a terrible driver.

One example she gives, which makes me shudder - she was driving towards a T junction to join the main road, with a box of choccies for her friend on the passenger seat. As she braked for the junction, the chocs slide off the seat into the footwell, so she leant over to retrieve them, taking her feet off the pedals in the process. She felt a bump and looked up - she had coasted straight across the busy main road and ended up in the farmer's field!

She also admits to reversing back up a slip road after realising the A1 was jammed - almost causing a major pile-up, as other drivers rounded the bend at 60mph.

Add that to the fact that she has dinged just about every car in the company car park, when opening her car door.

Bloody nightmare.

I accept that she is not typical of women drivers, although I would estimate around 75% of near misses and stupid acts I have witnessed on the road were down to young women drivers.

My best friends GF is so bad that he is amazed that she has not totalled the car a number of times. He says she drives without thinking. She is doing other things while driving to school. He might be over reacting because she seems okay when I am in the car, maybe because she is not thinking about work.

Fortunately my other half isn't driving at the moment. I used to get very nervous when she was driving, particularly that she didn't seem to be 100% focussed on what was going on around her and therefore unable to anticipate potential problems. She drove too close to the kerb and also applied the brakes relatively late (IMO) when coming up behind stationary cars.
