Apple handled this incident badly. Though what really surprises me is that no one even thought to mention, that as revolutionary as the aerial arrangement is, that there would be problems with the aerials during normal use because of hand conductivity. Maybe no one is willing to speak up about such issues at Apple, for fear of losing their job. That can be catastrophic if it happens again.

On the Blackberry we use, holding, cupping them in the hand causes the signal to drop... Yes, it isn't as extreme as the iPhones we have (3GS), but they still suffer. It is a physical limitation of having an integrated antenne, as opposed to those old pull out antennes on older mobilephones.
The manufacturers can minimise the impact, by placing the antenne carefully, but as long as the device has to be held in the hand and placed against the ear, it will suffer to some extent to signal distortion.

Its a common problem in lyaered managerial companies, especially when the head honcho is know to throw a hissy fit, humiliate them in open forums and terminate people careers because they dont tell him what he wants to hear. It breads a culture of yes men.

Someone mentioned to me that the problem was exacerbated by fat, sweaty American hands holding the phones I have been able to cause signal drop off on my iPhone 3G by smothering it with my hands.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

And very bad for the company, shareholders and the staff.

Right now, given they're making more money by selling more things to more people than they ever have before, it's very unlikely either the customers or shareholders are going to demand any significant change in the way Apple does business. Jon

I agree but at this stage it might just be a couple of people who are yes men, the last thing that you want are a company of yes men. Yes men are bad in every organisation that they join.

dum-dum-der - guess what?
If I cover the back of my Pony Ericsson with my hand, I lose bars too.
I'm outraged, naturally.
