The appropriate conduct to take when whale watching is to not approach within a certain distance, and certainly not to chase. Even though that yacht is under sail I can't help but assume that it was steered into the path of the whale.

I have a theory that whales know exactly where they are and what they're doing. I suspect a grumpy whale getting pissed off is to blame here.

I think it saw a camera noticed that someone was taking photos on the boat and misjudged a photo bombing attempt.
