Optimising for IE8 isn't really acurate, basically, if they drop IE6 and IE7, they can concentrate on producing one version of the site, which will work with all browsers.

All current browsers are close enough, in the core HTML/CSS capabilities, that you can generate one site for all browsers. If you have to also support IE6 and IE7, then you have to hack the site to make extra checks for IE6/7 and output custom CSS only for that browser. It means extra testing, a more fragile site and it is a complete pain for the developer.

Well as you say optimising for IE8 is not really accurate, because it is compatible with all other browsers. For IE 6/7 users it is as good as optimising for IE8. :D

I would think this is sensible of Amazon. Does it not risk their security if everyone is logging in with IE6?

Have they altered the language dictionary to cope with the Grauniads spelling? ;)

Had a look at it today - it truly is atrocious. Jezza apparently created a 'burka backlash' by prompting seven whole complaints to the BBC...

You only need one idiot who takes it too far and there goes Top Gear. Seven complaints? how many did they get after the lorry drivers killing prostitutes one? ;)

As JC wrote in one of his columns: a single complaint to the BBC is taken with the effect and seriousness of a 100,000 signature petition.

If every complaint is listened to, at some point everyone will complain the programs are unbearably dull.

Yes but then they could cancel it! :D

The BBC stop needing to watch out for every possible insult. As you say it makes the programs dull, and has no one got a sense of humour. Just because a number of lorry drivers have gone out to murder prostitutes does not mean that they all do. A lot but not all :D
