I avoid the sun when possible. I have SPF > 9000 for when it's not.

If I ever get a tan (or more likely burnt) it's entirely by accident through work etc. I like being white thank you, I'd rather be pale than orange.

But snowy, when you say sunbathe - what do you mean?

Sitting in the garden with a pint, a few tunes and a BBQ doesn't count as sunbathing for me.

Sunbathing, IMO, is lying outside with the single aim of getting a sun-tan. You might be with a couple of other people, but not necessarily.

I concur Nick.

It's like people drinking just to get wasted. Doesn't mean I never get very drunk, but that's never my objective to begin with.

I do LOVE the sun. I love the feel of it on my skin. I love the way it makes me happy. I love the way it illuminates the land and the sea and the sky. And I love to be out in it. But I never set out to just sit/lie around until I go brown.

Drinks, food, tunes, mates. That's not sunbathing, that's a party in the sun :)

The sun is also a vital for the body to be able to manufacture vitamin D. Everyone should be out in the sun for at least 20 minutes every day. Arms and head are OK. That's why we're such a miserable nation in the winter.

I like sunbathing. In Venice we went to the beach one day to break up the trip a bit. It was great to lie there and relax. I sit under the shade and use high factor sun cream or I will burn. Once it starts to cool down I will come out from the shade for a bit.

It's not really an option over here, and I'd actually have to travel to somewhere peaceful for it to make any sense. Also I'm Ulster-pale, so I'd need to be extra careful :(

i don't sunbathe per se.

On holiday, if we're at the beach, I may lie down, shirt off, sunglasses on, music, drink and "bathe" in sunlight but I'm not really trying to work a tan. I'm not a fan of the orange look. IMO a slight tan is okay but there's a tan line that's too much.

You guys all seem to think a tan is orange. It's not. It's brown. It's only orange if it's been chemically applied.

What it really is is skin damage, and very, very unhealthy...
