Doers anyone else know the story of the man who invented the epidural anesthetic? For those that don't know, that effectively numbs the whole bottom half of your body. It gets given to women giving birth among other things.
Anyway, the bloke who invented it (whose name I forget) had to test it somehow. How did he do that? Obviously, he applied it to one of his lab assistants, whose name was probably 'Beaker'. He gave the unfortunate assistant the jab and then started to test responses. The first test was to poke him in the leg with a pencil. The assistant felt nothing. Next was to stab him in the leg with a fork. Again, nothing. The scientist continued with more and more violent assaults, none of which the assistant felt at all. The final act was (and this is documented in a serious scientific journal by the way) to take a run up and kick his assistant full on in the gentleman's vegetables. The report suggests the kick was powerful enough to lift the assistant off his feet but once again he felt no discomfort at all.
Three hours later, when the anesthetic wore off.....
