When Nintendo invited us last week to an event to show off its three dimensional portable gaming console, the 3DS, I wasn't as excited as I should have been. A Nintendo fan since my first Duckhunt, I'd be lying if I said I was uninterested, but apart from a World Cup match in the cinema, 3D technology has never impressed me. There is a wow - for ten seconds or so.

Sounds great, but I've already got a DS doing very little due to lack of good games, so they'd need to change that...

There is no point in buying a device if there are not the games around that you want for it. If they cannot solve that problem then why buy it in the first place?

It's difficult:
More games == more users
More users == more games
If the users are there, why should developers develop for the platform? If the games aren't there, why should users move to the platform...

Yes it is a chicken and egg situation. Though generally at launch there are usually a few games, which can be made easier if it is backward compatible. When the PS2 came out it had the DVD drive and was fully backward compatible, which hugely increased the numbers of games playable.
