Just an idea Saspro, in case this Phorm [LIFTED] goes ahead, could you please opt x404 out of the Webwise scheme like Amazon, Wikipedia et al have done?

I've had an idea for some content for the main site.
One thing that could be included is a wiki for the stuff from the help forum? I notice that in the Open Source section there are LOTS of how-to threads, and in the Mac section there is a hints and tips thread.
When someone has an issue resolved in the help forums, something could be added about it in the wiki.
There's plenty of open source wiki stuff out there, would be easy to set-up.

That's a cool idea Nick, all the HOWTO's in the Open Source board are all one post (I think), there is about 34 IIRC, and the index thread would be easy enough to copy, especially if the wiki could parse PHPBB mark-up

I wouldn't mind doing something on that, at least initially, if required. Edd

Hmm, A quick google throws up some results that suggest MediaWiki can integrate with PHPbb in the sense that it can use the same usernames/passwords as an existing PHPbb forum which would be ideal. There may be some add-ons which take that further, but I'm not sure.

Yep, we'd want the phpbb/mediawiki bridge, I can't be doing with multiple usernames. Then and again, I'm lazy.
*Goes to find it*

Superb idea. The HOWTOs in the Open Source forum may be useful but I can't help thinking it looks a little bit cluttered. A wiki for information/howtos and the forums for other questions/discussion would be a great idea.
Also, =1 for the opt out of Phorm/webwise/whatever.
Also, +1 for the attach things to PMs idea.

100% agree with the first one. Fantastic if someone is willing and able to make it happen; it could turn this place into a real IT Help winner. 100% agree with the second one. It just takes one email, so why not. 50% agree with the PM attachments. It's handy, but it's open to abuse and fills up the database. I'm not sure it's worth the potential problems. Bad people could use it to send illegal material. I'd rather just email, MSN or for pictures use Botophucket.

Aye, the HOWTO index in the Open Source board isn't be clearest of things, it served a purpose over in the old place, however if we can adapt it to something a little more accessible over here, then that'd be great. If someone put the technology there I'd be happy to do the data transferring... Yup yup for the phorm stuff... And I'm against attachments, I'll use some free web space/email/etc. You'd probably even get more space on free web hosting?
