As long as it does not affect the persons work then it is better to allow it. Though how they deal with it if abused is down to management.

As far as Facebook is concerned I'll spend about 1 min a day seeing if there are any messages but that's it. No [LIFTED] useless pretend farms or any of that [LIFTED] on my page.

Same here. Though I do not check it that often.

Problem with these statistics is that it oversimplifies the issue. The biggest issue I have when these figures arrive stating that cig breaks cost x and social networking sites cost companies y: is that a lot of people who work on computers in offices work for a salary and a lot of work can be structured so you have to complete whatever necessary task by a certain deadline so most who don’t complete work in the day find themselves staying in until it is done.
It’s very similar to statistics about how much sick days cost employers well generally they don’t in a lot of professions because often the slack is taken up by other people in the work force.

Unless I'm missing something in my logic, which is easily possible, these statistics seem to contain high levels of oversimplification and flaws. Whilst seem to only exist to make scaremongering headlines for the media. Whilst I say this I do understand in some circumstances it does lose companies money and productivity, however a lot less than is stated in figures such as these.
