We used an iPhone 4 at work to live blog an event we were attending. Did we have any issues with it? No. Ho hum.

You're patently a liar and possibly a communist to boot.

"Having anthenna issues" doesn't mean that everybody will experience problems all the time. The issues is widely documented by a number of reputable and independent sources so I am not going to bother to argue anymore. I have tried one iphone4 and got it to drop all bars except the last one.

My experience in general with mobiles is they either work or they don't in any particular conditions. You can either talk to someone, or you can't. Whether you have one or two or three bars doesn't seem to make all that much difference in fact. As long as you have one bar, you effectively have 'a phone'. Mobile data is a different kettle of fish but for voice and text it's always seemed to be a very black & white situation. Jon

I totally managed to get my Pony Ericsson to drop it's bars down to one as well if I hold it the right way. It was awesome.

As Steve Jobs said it does happen with other brands.

And he never lies I am not saying that no other phone drops signal but the question is how common it is for devices to do that, and more importantly, to what extent they do that...

All the time. My crapola Nokia, for example, drops signals if I hold it the wrong way, and if I walk through my front door. Inside my house, I'm lucky to get one bar in the living room. I can't get any in my little studio here. It's a three year old "smart" phone. I never had problems with my Ericsson that had the little aerial thing on the top. Who do I sue?

I'd start with whoever built your house. Obviously they didn't take account of the requirement for mobile phone connectivity and should be made to pay for the renovation required to use radio-transparent materials.

I have had phones that reception has dropped off like a cliff. Though I never associated it with the phone or the aerial, or how I held it. I do think that the whole matter has been rather overblown. I do accept that the whole affair has been a PR disaster for Apple but they should have dealt with it better. Has it deterred me from wanting one? No.

My brother is pissed. I told him to buy an iPhone4 and he hates it. Now bear in mind he's not an Apple hater and has no knowledge or interest in Apple, fanboys, PC wars or anything else. He also had no idea of this apparent signal loss until I told him he can claim a free case. I dont know what his issue is with the phone in general but I suspect its more user than phone though What he has said though is that the signal is crap. His missus has an HTC Desire on Orange (he is on Orange too) and he placed both handsets on a table. She had plenty of signal and he had almost none. He moans he struggles to get a good enough signal to make calls most of the time. I'm hoping his free case will help and he can start to get on with the phone.

Pedant alert! No, he's pissed off. Pissed still means to be plastered, bladdered, blotto, three sheets to the wind, drunk, in proper English. </pedant> Sorry. As you were.

Aha! As a statement 'my brother is pissed' is more than likely to be true! But yes, he is also in fact pissed off.
