Indy clicky
If this does go to court, it could end up being a rather costly battle - for both sides.
Once again, the only winners will be the lawyers.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

But it's only now wanting to float on the stock market.

Change it from Skype to Scype. Simple.

That's an ugly word, and would be pronounced more like scythe, surely?

'whisky' was around long before BSkyB/news International were and there's no obvious market conflict, together they'd kill his case and any lawyer would know that, so they'd be willing to fight it all the way. He doesn't actually want this to go to court and he probably doesn't even believe it's an infringement, he just wants Skype to give him a huge bagful of money to go away. I hate this kind of 'opportunistic litigation'.

As it is it will be an interesting case - BSkyB only got into telephony quite recently but I can't remember the exact dates, 'Skype' as a brand may very possibly predate Sky Talk or whatever they started off calling it.

I don't like 'scype' though, sounds vaguely unpleasant and medical.

Actually I think that Rupert has missed his opportunity. He should have make this claim years ago. I do not think that he will have much of a claim after all this time.

windows done something similar against lindows
they couldn't get them to name change

so they took them to the courts country by country and won
companies can be assholes over a name, even if that name is different

they really need to get a life ...

This is the kind of thing I would outlaw. If you want to protect your name etc there needs to be a time limit.
