I'm considering buying a new Peugeot 207.

Does anyone have one?

Good/bad?

I was looking at the new Fiesta but looong waiting times - been quoted 12 weeks "if you're lucky"

It's French so it'll look good for a while until the electrics go (just my own experience of French cars)

also the spares for it will vary depending on what day of the week it was made [again... based on observation...]

what car/vehicle is it going to replace?

Aren't peugeot always near the bottom of the reliability tables?
Had a 206 (mini estate weird thing) as a hire car once. I hated it. I hope the 207 is better.

Get something Japanese instead, it'll last much longer before it breaks down.

Reviews on sites like What Car are quite favourable - even my brother-in-law (who is in the motor trade) actually thinks they are quite good which is a surprise.

The car it's replacing is a Vauxhall Corsa 1.4SRI on an 05 plate - again my BiL says I should get around £3.8k-£4.1k as part-ex for it.

I'm selling it as its getting on to having 50k on the clock (I always get rid of a car now before it reaches 50k as I've found reliablity can be an issue beyond that and it also depreciates faster)

I was looking at a new Peugeot 207 1.6 VTi-Sport (120) - just within my budget new (12k) or a 6month old one which is around £10.5k - trying to get Peugeot dealers to talk/email you back though is a pain - you would have thought they would almost bite-your-arm-off as a new car buyer but apathy still seems rife.

As I said my first choice would have been a new Fiesta - something like the 1.4Zetec or 1.4 Titanium but long waiting list and also seem rather over-priced.

I've seen an Abarth Punto for sale at a very good price - my heart says "buy it" but my wallet says "dont you dare!"

A friend of mine has the 207 GTI (I think that's the model) in the 1.6T engine. I struggled to keep up with him in my vRS and that's saying something. He raves about it, as he originally bought it for his mrs to run to the shops, but he now takes it to work every day!

I've never been a fan, but if you don't intend keeping it beyond 50k, maybe you'll avoid some issues. That said, quite why anyone would want to buy a normally aspirated car these days in beyond me. If image doesn't bother you, get a new Fabia. Incredible value for money and awesome warranty figures. Outside of that, the new Corsa VXR is very tasty, but might be a little too rich, dunno your budget.

See, now I've been thinking about this lately, and the conclusion I've drawn is that a turbo is just another thing waiting to go wrong. A friend had a Cosmo and the turbos on that needed a 5 minute cool down after every trip. PITA. Or you go to the hassle of chopping about the loom and fitting a turbo-timer. More hassle and potential grief.
I wouldn't mind something supercharged though.

This is right. Turbo cars are fun until they break, which they inevitably will do. Our car (a modded Focus TDCi)'s turbo is now just a smokescreen generator, after my mum decided to drive it with no coolant in and it melted the Turbo oil seals away.

But having said that, the new VW TSI (turbo and supercharged I believe?) are very good. They get like 150bhp from a 1.4 4 cylinder engine, which isn't bad really.

Back on topic:

My dads friend has a 207 GTI, and tbh it's not bad. The interior is shockingly cheap (nasty plastics, titanium-effect stickers etc), and it's not really that quick, but apparently it's quite a nice car to drive.

Still. get a Focus. Or a fiesta. Or a Honda Civic.

my saxo done 52k miles and still going great I also drive a 406 and a 807, great reliable cars.

Every time it rains, I see a broken down Peugeot. Guaranteed.

This should tell you quite a lot. A dealer who isn't willing to bend over backwards to get a new sale in the current market is hardly a good indication of future performance.

Personally I wouldn't buy a French car. They seem to be rather flaky from all of the examples I've seen and driven. Combined with surly and unhelpful dealer service (Citroen, Peugeot or Renault). All together not the best combination.
Whatever you do don't buy a Renault. Designed for safety my @rse. Designed to rack up extra time in the garage for simple tasks (like changing a headlight).

Buy German I say. My mum swears by her Skoda Fabia (02 plate), so much so that she convinced half the street to buy one (it might as well be called "Skoda road" now, seriously), although the new model is hideous.
