They will simply retire him.

No I meant the fact they don't really seem to have checked out what he was saying before broadcast.

You can't stop somebody just saying stuff on a live broadcast, not unless you're operating with a built in delay which they tend not to do unless someone's got a history of doing stupid things. Even if it's recorded they can't 'check it out', they're not the police. All they can do is decided whether it's within the broadcasting code to put it out or not. This is, to be honest, a bit of a non-story. Bloke said something on the radio, it was investigated, it turned out to be bollocks, bloke is being done for wasting police time. So what? The BBC hadn't actually done anything illegal or even unethical, it's all down to the bloke in question. Would I be at all cynical to suggest that this is just a case of Sky trying to sling mud at the BBC over something that, in fact, isn't really their problem? Jon

It's just going to be more of a waste of money. They won't find him guilty, it's not like he walked into the Polcie station and confessed and they only say they have enough evidence to suggest he didn't do it so I can't see them getting a conviction based on that.
The CPS is an ass.

I agree this was a fishing expedition so they cannot find him guilty. They were the ones who decided to investigate.

Hmm, seems the reports I've been reading are a pick and mix of the actual timeline of events if this is anything to go by: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-no ... e-11035402I thought the show was recorded quite a while before it was put out, which made me wonder just at what point the police became involved...

+1, he didn't initiate the investigation and thus should be found not guilty.

I think they became interested after it was broadcast or close to that time.
