See, I'm increasingly of the opinion that no self-respecting media outlet should be uttering 'iXxx killer' these days, but then you read:

Quote:
"Our tablet will be better than the iPad."

That's when you start thinking, 'Yeah, you're asking for trouble'...

It would seem unwise to tout the success of your product before anyone's even seen it.
The thing about the iPad is it's not just the hardware, it's the whole package. If youre trying to make an alternative, you either have to go Windows, which gives you the apps but doesn't give you a touch optimized OS ( and no, Windows 7 is absolutely not touch optimized )or you build a proprietary OS and then you've got to convince people to make apps for it. The only chance youve got is to find an existng touch OS like Android to get you the apps but even then most Android apps arent 'resolution independent' and will look rubbish on a tablet screen.

If you want an iPad killer, you don't just have to 'kill' the iPad, you have to 'kill' the app store too. And the app store is a much bigger angrier dog than the iPad is. And right now nobody is really looking capable of taking it on.

Yes it draws comparison to the iPad and if it comes up short then it will be dead as a dodo soon enough. Stupid thing to do. Just let it sell, and do not make comparisons.

Same with any products / outlets. rule number 1 never slag off the opposition.

comet were fine and £40 cheaper, and recycled our old one FOC. Result :D

Bad mouthing the competition is common in US advertising. Maybe that is where LG get their marketing people from?

And the phrase 'surprisingly productive' is a little clumsy too - though probably better than 'LG's VP for mobile-device marketing' saying, "you know, I thought it was going to be sh!t, but really, with a bit of practice I can actually type on it..."

As an aside, this little 'smartphone retrospective' (via Gruber) brought back a few bad memories of how things were.
