I still have the pen I made for my BBC Micro.

It doesn't work with TFT screens though

I didnt mean it cant. What I meant is that if the touchscreen is only as complex as needed (i.e. control the OS) I dont think it could/would be as accurate as a dedicated tablet with 1000's of levels of pen pressure, etc.

I guess it depends how much tech they put into it.

But if tablets can do it, then what is to stop a desktop screen from doing the same? Will it come with an iPen? for drawing?[/quote]
Just look at the high-end tablets from Wacom, they've been using touch screens for years, with a tablet overlayed on the screen...

That was my point in an earlier post. It will make the Wacom 21 UX obsolete if they have a decent screen overlay. You could save £1800 or similar with a new iMac if this is happens.

NOTHING

I fear the point is missed again. There is nothing stopping a desktop screen from having 1000's of levels of sensitivity and the accuracy required to draw/paint/edit if that is what they build.

My point is that if you need a touchscreen to control the OS alone just with rudimentary touch and gestures, etc then that would not replace a tablet i.e. the same level of tech as the basic touchscreens already out there in use.

I am of the opinion that if they build a touchscreen into an iMac for example it will not have the same features as a £2000 21UX. It would be too costly and the levels of touch control would more likely resemble that of an iPad.

Again though.... I never said they cant

Yes but a 21UX will have a very small market at that price and so Wacoms margins may be enormous. That would open up the possibility that someone could have developed a considerably cheaper way of doing it.

I've put of buying a Mac for a while now but if Apple build a 27" iMac with the features of a 21UX for under £2000 I would fine it nigh on impossible to say no. I'd sell a kidney.

For me if it adds no more than £500 to £1000 to an iMac but has all the features of the 21UX it would still be a steal.
