Crimes against wildlife and animals like this are usually punished so leniently that the risks are worth it for the smugglers.

That is sick what is the world coming to? It is the second animal cruelty that has made the headlines this week, what about the sick woman who put the cat in the bin earlier in the week, she has become an overnight internet villian and she may even lose her job, if more people stand up for animals tougher sentences may be given.

I can only hope it was captive bred, because from what I've heard they just shoot the parents if they take from the wild.

Damned cute little thing. Hope it has a happy life :(

I think that if sentences for animals on the endangered list started at 15 years imprisonment climbing depending on the rarity then it might stop the smuggling, Though all it might do is drive the price up.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

The cat in the bin story makes me feel quite bad. For all those shouting "animal cruelty", many probably treat their children far worse.

Not necessarily. People who have a lack of empathy towards animals are more likely to be sociopaths. It is a hint of psychopathic behaviour.
