Greenpeace has claimed to have boarded a Scottish company's oil platform off Greenland.

Environmental campaigners said Edinburgh-based Cairn Energy's platform had been boarded by four members.

Greenpeace said the climbers had enough supplies to occupy hanging tents for several days.

Cairn has so far not commented. The company had announced last week it had discovered gas off the coast of Greenland.

Greenpeace had earlier raised concerns, in the wake of BP's Gulf of Mexico oil spill disaster.

Police spokesman Morten Nielsen, speaking from Greenland, said that anyone breaking the law would be prosecuted.

It is understood a security breach would have triggered a shutdown of the platform's operations.

If it's true, I don't know how upset I'd be if they drowned or something...

A mate of mine had 18 months on the boats with Greenpeace. He now runs his own road haulage firm.

Swampy, the eco-warrior, was rushed into hospital with chest pains.

He died on the table.

The doctors say they could have saved him, but he wouldn't let them do a bypass.

Why have they had to stop drilling? As long as they've got to the point where they've run the riser, there's no safety reason why they can't drill with a couple of tents hanging from the rig.

They should just get the military to drag them out of there by force.

I'm sure the French would do it quite happily, probably with explosives.

This does not do Greenpeace any good. Far too many people are dependant on cheap energy. That will change and then they will be listened to. What is needed is a decent carbon tax that actually makes renewables a cheaper option. Then people might consider conservation, and efficiency which are the ways to go.
