Stores located on Army and Air Force bases have been told to keep EA's upcoming FPS Medal of Honor off their shelves.

The Army and Air Force Exchange Services has told Kotaku that it has banned the game from being sold at a total of 49 GameStop stores in the US.

GameStop e-mailed its employees and revealed it has decided to support the decision to not 'carry Medal of Honor in any of our AAFES based stores...out of respect for our past and present men and women in uniform.'

'As such, GameStop agreed to have all marketing material pulled by noon today and to stop taking reservations. Customers who enter our AAFES stores and wish to reserve Medal of Honor can and should be directed to the nearest GameStop location off base' read the e-mail.

GameStop made it clear to employees that the playable Taliban character were the cause of this ban.

'GameStop fully supports AAFES in this endeavor and is sensitive to the fact that in multiplayer mode one side will assume the role of Taliban fighter.'

The inclusion of Taliban characters has drawn a lot of fire recently, Fox news branded the game 'disrespectful' and UK Defence Secretary, Liam Fox, has called for the 'tasteless' game to be banned.

DICE, the studio responsible for the multiplayer in Medal of Honour, has said "it's not about the war, it's about the soldiers" and that the content 'doesn't provoke too hard'.

Thing is, has anyone asked the soldiers themselves? :|

As usual, no one asks the opinion of the people actually involved.

It should stop the protests at the gates to bases and letters from upset soldiers and families, whilst those that still want it can pop off base and buy a copy in the nearest store...

No but that would make too much sense. ;)
