Hi,
roughly how long would it take to scan 4gb memory with Ubuntu running from a dvd?
It's my win7 laptop.

Why do you want to do that? Can't you just do it from Windows??

It won't take too long. Put it this way -if you'd started it when you opened the thread it would have been long finished by now.

Started it about 19:45 last night and it was still running at 7:30 this morning 11:45 elapsed.. :shock:

A lot of tools run forever - I always use a boot disk with memtest on it, and that never ends, it just continues to run the tests over and over again.

What sort of test(s) are you doing, and how many times??

it was just the memory test that was one of the options when I booted from the disk. the laptop is with works it dept, hopefully getting some new memory... I am off this week so hopefully when I get back in it will be sorted
