Ordering an eBay Buy It Now item for £29.99 with free p+p as stated, only for the shop's own checkout process to pop up and try to charge me an extra fiver for delivery (presumably cos I live in NI)... waiting on the seller to get back to me, they needn't think they're getting the extra fiver either

Brother-in-law fail.

Passed his test two months ago and just had two pints before we reminded him he's supposed to be driving home tonight.

I hope you have had another driver available.

Ebay fail.

Nearly picked up a bargain on ebay just to be sniped by a bidder with no feedback who'se won 4 items in the past 6 months and retracted all 4 bids.

Arse.

It is probably an attempt by a friend to bid up the price to see if you had a higher bid. It might be worth mentioning to eBay.

More likely, the item didn't fetch as much as he was hoping for. Report it.

I hate it when sellers add extra postage for us here in NI, then send it by Royal Mail or ParcelForce. We are part of the UK and covered by the same standard charge as the rest of the UK!

Well, just checked on the bidding history agian, now it's 5/5 retractions. Funny that.

Anywhere specifically I could report it to? Myabe Customer Services via the invalid bid retraction? I've not used ebay for ages you see.

Edit: Done. I don't mind being outbid by people who pay for the things but this one's uber suss.

I bid on an item with no reserve, and I was the only bidder, so I was on track to get it for a quid plus postage.

The seller pulled the listing with only minutes to go, then relisted it with a £20 reserve and a buy it now price of about £50.

I reported it to ebay and they did nothing.

I do hope they have started to take this kind of thing seriously, and I hope you get some kind of result.

They seem to in their bumff but then it also says you need a damn good reason to retract bids and a form to fill in. Would 4 retractions from 4 bids in the last 6 months not then give them pause for thought? Sorry, 5 from 5 now.

Well see, although I'm not hold my breath for this to be moved in to the 'Tales of Win Thread'. :D

I suspect that is happening a lot right now. Many people are simply not able to spend money, so the prices that people expect fail to meet sellers expectations. Then people pull the item or get far less than they expect. eBay may be returning to bargain levels again. Though with the company wanting to maintain profits they have pushed towards fixed price auctions instead. Though that has pushed away bargain hunters like me.

As a minor thread divert, further to my ebay fiasco the seller has sent me a second chance offer on the auction as the "bidder" is now not looking like buying (their feedback is now -1 so it doesn't look like the seller's mate, just some numptee).

Now, what's the protocol? Before the other bidder came in my offer was lower and only increased due to their bids. There were no other bidders putting up the price. Should I push for a second chance offer at my bid before the other bidder came in or at my final bid?

A second chance bid is usually offered against your final bid. Unfortunately it doesn't matter that some dipsh!t bumped up the price.

Just to drag the thread even further off topic, I remember reading about a second chance scam on ebay, although I dont remember the details. Suffice to say, proceed with caution, and don't fall for any lame excuses about why the seller can't or won't use paypal.

Aye, cheers. I'm contacting via the item listing and I'd only use paypal on ebay anyways.

Cheers Spreadie.
