Departing Nokia EVP, Anssi Vanjoki, said that unsing Android is like peeing in your trousers for warmth in winter. Anssi Vanjoki, outgoing head of Nokia’s smartphone division, likens mobile phone makers that adopt Google’s software to Finnish boys who”pee in their pants” for warmth in the winter. Temporary relief is followed by an even worse predicament. His argument is, basically, that using Android lets manufacturers quickly come to market with a smartphone, but, because there are so many smartphones on the market using Android, there is very little they can do to diffentiate their products - the same argument can be levelled at the Microsoft ecosystem as well... Oh, wait, didn't Nokia try and do the same thing with Symbian? Aren't they trying to do the same thing with Intel and the MeeGo platform? ZDNet clickyFortune clicky

I like the idea of Android, but I don't like the way the handset makers and the mobile networks can dictate the firmware version you are using. If a new version of android comes out, you should be able to install it on your phone - providing the hardware is up to the job of course.
Quite right though, Symbian didn't get it right either.

Having only one or two products on sale didn't do iPhone OS any harm.

Handset makers, yes. Networks no! HTC Sense makes Android look and feel much better. Their changes make Android better. Vodafone updates (now retracted) just forced unwanted spam-apps to make them money. A friend of mine has the Google Nexus one (android 2.1 or 2.2, not sure which). But it looks arse compared to HTC Sense phones.

No. The point in this case is if you do that in the winter in Scandanavia, you're warm for a bit and then your boxers freeze onto your privates. Which is a bit inconvenient. Jon

And if you are in the far north that time before it freezes is remarkably short, less than a second.

When it is minus 60 and you pour a cup of hot coffee on to the ground it can be frozen before it hits the ground.

But it won't be -60° inside his trousers will it? Otherwise his legs would freeze.

No, but it will soeak through to the trousers themselves and then, within seconds, the whole lot will freeze. Have you ever wet your pants? Or spilt a hot cup of coffee in your crotch? The fluid travels almost instantly through the layers of fabric, bringing instant heat, if the temperature outside is sub zero, the warm fluid will cool very rapidly and freeze, through all the layers of clothing.
