I'm saying, if you're gonna sell that card and get another, you COULD get a 4000 series ATi, which will still do audio over HDMI and should work - given I have a very similar board to you (although I do have the latest bios).

The supplier has kindly agreed to a refund for this card. So the hunt starts for a replacement.
I am leaning towards a GeForce 210 because:
a) The motherboard has an nForce chipset - There will hopefully be no potential clashes with ati / nvidia drivers.
b) It is available in a silent fanless board
c) It is in the budget
d) The card doesn't need loopthrough cables from the spdif header or socket.
Thanks to SAS for offer of swap but I would prefer to get the full warrantee etc of a new card.
Any thoughts?
