Nope the 1st Peugeot garage did email me back to confirm what I was looking for so I replied and mentioned my existing car re. Part Ex and have heard nothing from them since!

Tried 3 other Peugoet delaers and not 1 of them has bothered to even reply :evil:

Currently talking to Motorpoint as they have a big site in Derby and have both 207's and the new Fiesta in-stock so if they can quote a good part-ex I will drive up to Derby over weekend and take a look.

Update - Motorpoint have just called me back but only offerred me £3.6k for my existing car whereas by brother-in-law (who works in motor trade) said I should get between £3.8k-£4.1k

Oh well - back to the start again.

Can't be arsed to read the entire thread but basically there's a reason clarkson rubbishes french cars and it's not based on xenophobia.

As for turbos - as long as you disengage the turbo for a few mins before stopping, there's no need to 'cool down' when parking - do it whilst driving.

Well all the taxi drivers round here drive Peugeots, I guess they have not been listening to Clarkson, probably because they must have a rep for reliability. Either way, Clarkson has no mechanical knowledge, he even admits its himself, I would not surprised how many bungs he has taken over the years and he almost single handedly finished Rover off.

Its Renault that build crap that breaks, I think Citroen and Pug (PSA Group), apart from being great innovators build quite solid stuff. Truth be known, I don't think the French buildthe best engines though, compare any of their diesels to other and they are always rougher and noisier.

Round Maidenhead, it was loads of Mercs that the taxi drivers liked.
See quite a few Octavias and 300Cs round here at the moment.
One of the local 300Cs just dropped me on the M5 heading back to town, and I wasn't hanging around either (accelerating from a 40 up to a 70mph - the MX-6 quite likes that) but he just left me standing.

Anyway, half the fun is in hunting out the model you want - happy hunting!

My dad just got a Renault and it's got some sort of keyless system where you use a card. Quite cool but takes a few days to get used to.

Anyone used one? What do you think?

Around here they are all Rover 600's with Honda engines (F20Z1's if I'm not mistaken)

I think it was 5th gear that demonstrated the build quality of the S hitroen C3 - or lack thereof. Reduced it to its component parts in minutes. Cheap for a good reason.

I had a friend with a Laguna with that. I hated it. Would lock and unlock seemingly by itself and you were never 100% if you'd locked it. Renault are also trying to push "automatic" handbrakes on Scenic drivers. Had a rental a year ago. Maybe you get used to it, but in Cardiff traffic, I kept stalling!

The French do a lot of things well. Cars is not one of them.

I think the reason the 406 Peugeot is popular, besides everyone here thinking they are crap is they can do 45 mpg +

Honda civic 1.8 CDI or the 2.2 is much nicer

And my diesel in my megane isnt too bad, a few electronics are a bit iffy (temp gauge and an ABS sensor have gone) other than that it's ok

John, the Fabia has around £2k off atm, the 1.4 will return 70mpg or so and there is also the scrappage scheme so it will cost a few K :)

Because they are cheap to run, never break down and are comfortable to be driven in. 31 isn't a bad combined mpg and to be fair, most of them have LPG conversions. The Rover 600 is basically a Honda Accord with more fake wood panelling.
Many cars can do 45mpg, but it isn't enough to stop a peugeot from sucking. Fuel is cheap compared to the money you lose being off the road with yet another French electrical fault or flawed design.
