There's something wrong with this thread. Whatever post is the last post on pg 2 is doubled up as the first post on pg3.
This just happened three times (Ernie, Oli and myself).

Nice one, can you give me an honest review once you've been playing with it for a couple of days.

Need feedback on how easy it is to use, reading conditions, using as a book versus a paper back etc.

Will do.

My dad's buying me Derren Brown's new book which I'll be reading on the kindle so I'll let you know.

Should be a nice birthday present for myself :D

Have you go the 3G version koli? or isn’t it worth the extra £40?

I went for a wifi only. 3G is useful if you want to download daily periodicals or blogs, or maybe if you want to use the internet browser. I don't need any of these so wifi is fine for me.

As opposed to...?

Biographies?
Reference?
Non-fiction?

The kindle can be used for MP3s, audio books, web browsing and photos (although black and white) also.

I forgot to add that Kindle also has a dictionary that work offline. Just highlight the word and it will give you the meaning. Very useful when reading old books...

It arrived today!

+1 for Amazon who gave me an estimated delivery of tomorrow!

Anyway, I had to buy a book for it so I bought Grand Design by Stephen Hawking. I haven't had a proper read with it yet, just been showing it to a few people round the office who are thinking of getting one.

So far though it is very easy to use. The page turns take slightly longer than I expected but still it is quicker than turning a page in a paper book.

The text is very readable and I've switched the font to sans serif as it makes for easier reading. There are also 8 or 9 (can't remember atm) different font sizes from microscopic to humongous! Again I'm in fairly diffuse light at the moment so it's very easy to read. I'll let you know later how it fairs in low light.

It's very light and a perfect size for me to hold.

I found most of the functions straight away without having to search. Including, changing the order of the books by author name, turning off the wifi, searching the dictionary and looking up words in the dictionary whilst reading.

Everyone who has seen it has commented that the display looks like printed paper and it really does.

Just have to get down to some reading with it now :D

A good purchase though!

^ Thanks, I'm interested in this if they ever sort out the ebook prices :)

Is it worth looking for a firmware update yet (idle curiosity)?

The prices are actually quite reasonable. Apparently the reason they are higher than very cheap (if that makes sense) is that printed books are exempt from VAT whereas eBooks aren't.

They should really put that bit of info out to their potential customers then, and I suspect they'd still struggle to justify it when, looking around, I can get a physical copy with free p+p cheaper in a lot of cases.

Next year the VAT thing is probably going to change. There will be a review anyway.
