I just called them up to ask for a price for a 4GB SO-DIMM kit (2x2GB sticks).

After a couple of minutes a second guy came on the phone and was trying to tell me that laptops don't take 4GB of RAM. He was adamant that they didn't. Even after I told him it was for a MBP he told me I should double check because it is "very rare" that laptops take 4GB of RAM.

In the end he told me a price. £49.99 per 2GB stick!! I can get a 4GB kit for £38.99 online!

It's very rare for the laptops they sell in Maplin to take more than 2GB because they sell 3 year old kit at 3 year old prices

It's partly true though; a lot of cheaper laptops even from Dell right now only come with 3GB max. Partly because of the chipsets and because of the 32bit processors and OS. Obviously, I'm talking about Windows laptops. I doubt the guy in Maplins ever touched an MBP.

Lol could be worse, could be PC World.

Example from the latest Linux Format:

Man: "I'd like an Acer Aspire One Netbook please; the one with the Linux Operating System"
PC World: "Certainly Sir, I'll just pop out the back and get you one. Bu the way, we have a special offer running with the Acer Aspire One this weekend. I can throw in a copy of Norton Anti-virus with a 20% discount."

*Facepalm*.

Hmm... I'm contemplating spending £120 (incl. delivery) on 4GB of memory and a 500GB internal HDD for my MBP.

I'm running out of space on my 160GB HDD atm and could do with the extra memory.

I may stick Linux and WinXP (or something) on partitions just because I can :D And also to play a couple of games and stuff.

What do you reckon? Worth it?

Well, I've done it!

I bought a WD 500GB drive and a 4GB kit of Corsair Value Select RAM :D

£122 incl. delivery from Dabs.

I would have got it a bit cheaper from Ebuyer but for some reason they seem to think I have used my card on another account and they have disabled my account... (the one that I set up for the first time to buy this stuff).

You know there's no need to actually download the internet. It'll be there later if you need it.
