I would say that using gaol is now a tad pretentious.

I don't. Jail is the american term. Gaol is the British term. Though I am not so pedantic as to get upset by it. That is what sub editors are for. ;)

Jail is now also the British spelling, quite clearly.

But the vessel has so alarmed fellow canal users that British waterways has been called on to investigate whether it breaches any rules.

Pathetic. You can see it is basically a black narrow boat with a conning tower and bow prow. It looks like a laugh. It could have been a Russian Attack sub with ballistic missile tubes.

Our library has an unabridged audio book of Clarke's 2001: A Space Odyssey.

I've never listened to an audio book, I just imagine I'd struggle to concentrate or would get frustrated at them reading at the wrong pace.

I've never gotten the peace, not even right now as I'm typing this :(

It's chiefly because I don't want to have to read it out loud to Best Beloved, who can no longer read it for himself due to failing peepers.

I forgot I entered a competition to win a TV. Didn't win the TV but this popped through my letter box today:

Now, do I buy the rest of the series? Is it any good? Not seen any of it at all.

I gave up after the first series as it dragged on with no conclusions. The first episode was really good though.

Congrats on the win!

A lot of people seem to have felt short-changed with that show :|

Personally, I always suspected they were making it up as they went along. Then they admitted it

I'm hazarding a guess at Lost, but not sure.

There's a whole thread. In fact there a probably several mentions of that show throughout the meeting place. Search around and then decide if you want the rest. I would HIGHLY recommend it. But I think as usual at x404, I'm in the minority.

I love lost! Brilliant tv show! Also, if you're going to watch it the really don't watch season 6 until you've seen the others.
