My friend (^ up there) is good friends with one of the Marvel artists - he's Spanish. All his work is done in Madrid, and sent to the US to be magically turned into a comic book. One of the Marvel writers she's also got to know is from Devon. It's like any art form - to a greater or lesser degree, there's always going to be a style which is expected of the genre, and within that, styles which sell more.

^ Great picture. Who is your friend dressed as? She certainly does an excellent job with her superhero costumes.

While having a look around Wikipedia for Comic Book illustrators, I happened across Jean-Pierre Gibrat. I'd never heard of him before but I really like his style which couldn't be more French.

A quick Google suggests his artwork's brilliant (women who look realistic! ), it's just a pity he doesn't seem to have teamed up with a good English writer

Cool! One more for the moment; over in the comic book thread I mentioned that I had a couple of sketches by William Simpson who has contributed to 2000AD, Hellblazer, etc. He did the artwork for a six-part DC mini series about vampire motorcycle girls called Vamps back in 1994 and the sketch below is of one of the main characters.

Heard an interesting news story (Buzz Out Loud podcast for Wednesday), that research at the recent Comicon showed that if people were to receive a super power, they would end up as a supervillain. Whilst it didn't say, that they would chose to be a super villain, it said that their actions over the long term would tend more towards super villain, than super hero.
For example, most people who had invisibility would use it to visit to spy on naked women or listen in on private conversations for fiscal gain etc.
I think the survey was a little too black and white, but I can see a lot of people misusing their abilities.
