I was born in Portsmouth where all of my extended family still live. Before I was one year old Dad's job got moved to Bath so we ended up moving to a town called Melksham in Wiltshire.
I spent around seventeen years living in Melksham, at eighteen I moved to Aberystwyth to start University. After two years there I moved to Camberley in Surrey to start a one year Industrial Year with Sun Microsystems. I then moved back to Aberystwyth for my final year in Uni.

Today I still live in Aber but I work about twenty miles up the road in a town called Machynlleth (said to be the old capital of Wales). I'm currently doing fairly low level stuff (flipping switches, replacing duff equipment, testing, and troubleshooting why things don't work) to do with a new railway signalling system being implemented between Birmingham International and Pwllheli/Aberystwyth.

Born in Wensleydale, in deepest darkest Yorkshire Dales, lived there 'til 16.
Spent 2 years in Scarborough at college, then another 2 years at Blackpool college.
Got work in Manchester, been living here ever since - currently 16 years.

I've reached a point where I wish I could move back further north to be nearer family, but there are no decent jobs in those areas for my line of work - well, nothing well paid anyway. So, I guess I will remain here for now.

In date order, and in many cases referencing the nearest city for ease of location:

Cheltenham
Hereford
Sydney
Hereford
Aylesbury
London
Milton Keynes
Southampton
Sydney
Woking
Sydney
Cairns
Hereford
London
Ayr - Current residence, an absolute hick town with nothing of note going for it other than black snow. Better than yellow snow I guess. ;)

Born in Liverpool, left at 18 to study in London, and stayed. Lived and worked mostly in West London since then, and most of my work is currently based within a few miles of home, in one direction or another.

Born in Fife, Scotland.
Moved to Doncaster as a child. Went to school there, studied engineering, became a fitter for the coal board (after one or two other jobs).
Made redundant, went to college studying engineering and blast design and got a job in the quarrying industry.
Stayed around Doncaster, but worked across central and northern England, made redundant last year.
Moved to the Isle of Wight for work early this year, still in the quarrying industry.

A steady southwards progession. Next stop the Canary islands, probably.

Wow amazing what you can learn from a simple question. Quite a few Londoners I see and quite a few places where my relatives live (Southampton, Melksham).

I doubt I would be living in London had I gone to university but then I might not have had the career opportunities I've had. Going to retire as soon as I can and move to the country and keep horses, pigs and chickens :)

Where abouts?

I lived at West Cowes for 6-7 years and my sister & her family at Newport. Still have some relatives who live at Ryde.

I live at the top (Binstead end) of Ryde.

I was born in Guildford, grew up near Shalford.

I moved to Chatham in the late 1980s, being invited to by a lover. We eventually parted company, so I moved out to Maidstone to be nearer where I was working, then to West Malling, then back to Chatham in the mid-1990s.

Been stuck here ever since. There are several places I'd prefer to be right now, but I guess we'll stick things out for the time being. I have made my retirement plans (Best Beloved is 25 years my senior, and we've discussed how things should work out when he pops his clogs), and they don't involve living anywhere permanently for too long if I can help it. ;)

I love the word lover, makes it sound a bit naughty :)
