The price of music albums should be slashed to around £1, a former major record label boss has suggested.

Rob Dickins, who ran Warner Music in the UK for 15 years, said "radically" lowering prices would help beat piracy and lead to an exponential sales rise.

Never gonna happen, but I'd certainly buy more albums if that were the case - far more albums.

There's a poll and I'd appreciate your thoughts on this (you can change your vote) :)

If albums are a £1 each, it removes the concern over whether the album is good enough etc, because at that price you don't care, you'll just buy it and see.

£10 plus on the other hand makes me rather more cautious in my purchasing.

I probably would. My tastes have stagnated, partly because of the cost, I suppose. I don't sample things as widely as I used to. So yes, if it were £1, I may try out more bands.

I'd probably buy anything for a quid.

No, because I buy all the albums I want to listen to anyway. They're not expensive enough that I have to put it off.

I don't buy albums, so dropping the price wouldn't affect the number I buy.

Last album I bought was the Cure rare B sides compilation, back in about 2004. Since then I haven't bought any - I've also don't have any illegally downloaded albums.

I prefer to buy albums than individual tracks. In the past I learned that I would often come to love tracks on albums that initially I didn't like, ones that I wouldn't buy on their own if I was picking and choosing.

If I didn't buy albums I'd miss out on those I come to like.

As I usually only buy albums once they have fallen into the bracket where they are in decent special offers in HMV & the like then I almost certainly would by more albums if the only cost a pound.

I do like albums as they can be several good tracks on there that didn't make it as singles or out on air play on the radio.

Most of the CDs I've bought in the last 10 years have been £15 - £20 each. That's is about the same as a month's food or two years PAYG top-up, therefore I only buy one or two per year.

Damned right I'd buy more if they were £1 each!

When you consider how much music is bought on a pocket money budget, I think it's pretty certain it would boost sales dramatically.

I don't know how much the artist normally makes off each sale, but I suspect high prices are actually crippling their income at the moment.
