OXM UK has issued a stern defence of its score for Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - maintaining it is still a 10/10 title.

The site's Ryan King - who gave the game a top score in his review last year - argues that respect for Modern Warfare 2 has 'lost out to mob mentality'.

"Its sequel status, Activision's reputation and No Russian made it an easy target and that detracts from how fun it is to play through," he writes.

"Modern Warfare 2 was apparently tolerable enough to be completed and for multiplayer to steal away hours and sometimes days of playing time, yet bad enough that it sucked. It doesn't make sense.

"But then it's not supposed to. The Modern Warfare 2 hate campaign was never based on logic. It was an unfortunate rallying point for the internet boo boys and that is arguably how it will be remembered from now on - as a disappointment and for No Russian."

Modern Warfare 2 is definitely a game that evokes strong opinions -but do you agree that it remains, or ever was, a 10/10?

It never was a 10/10 game for me cos the plot really is shocking (actually, it's insulting!), but the actual structure of the game itself is fantastic IMO, as are the spec-ops. MP I personally couldn't give a stuff about, and the map packs for sale are a bad joke anyway.

Your take on the game will hinge on the MP for many people I reckon...

Sorry, but it never was. Maybe a 5/10 game at best. Generic console FPS...even on the PC. They bolted in a "shock factor" level at the start to gain some press attention, but there was very little substance behind it.

I found the SP of the original Modern Warfare to be very fun and engaging, sure the story wasn't very good but the missions had very good set pieces.

The problem with MW2 is that they tried to emulate this and all it feels like is a rehash of the original with only a *few* original ideas thrown in.

I can think of a dozen scenes in COD4 that were memorable to me and that i truly thought were interesting, but when i think of MW2, the missions seem lacking. In fact the only one which i'd say stood out is the Chase mission at the end of the Favela where you have no weapons and simply have to run... very Matrix-esque (after having watched it a few days ago) and unfortunately i was only reminded of it whilst playing through it just now.

I feel as if the original Modern Warfare almost crammed in too many "set pieces" and as such, the sequels seem lacking or unoriginal. I completed MW2 on the 360 for the gamerscore, but i still haven't finished the campaign of "World at War" on the PC just because i didn't find that too engaging either (i only really enjoyed the Sniper mission at the start).

WAW is worth finishing just for some of the interesting curios, but it's without doubt the weakest of the games in every way :(
