I consider him a mate, and when mates vanish without a word you try and contact them as best you can. *shrug*
Just a shame I never got a response from him.

Didn't he drop of the radar before and come back again?

Caz, like Heather and anybody else that needs a break or just wants to check it out, I'm happy to offer a discount to Meeting Place regulars if you want to stay with us. We only have the pool and no restaurant or anything else and lots of things annoy me about this place, but it really is beautiful here. And very, very peaceful.

Heather, I could've totally pictured you in tons of the villages I drove through yesterday! 200yr old cottages, small village shop/pub/church and picturesque squares abound in West Cornwall. In fact, Penwith is probably one of the most untouched, undeveloped parts of the country. I thoroughly recommend driving the B3306 to anyone, it's a stunning driving road peppered with hamlets, farms, villages, granite and then mining heritage and the Atlantic throughout. Stunning.

No. He dropped off the forums, but he was still very much in contact by text and iChat.
Now he's not even on them.

Thanks for the offer. We have another incentive to come down as my in laws live there but at the moment we can't afford to. It was great when they flew from Stanstead to Newquay but think they've stopped that now :(

Think we were last down in May year before last.

But it's not in London, is it? ;)

Sounds dreamy.

I've also bookmarked your offer previously. Presumably there are out of season bookings available?

I doubt we shall be moving anywhere soon. In fact, I think it may have to wait until I'm on my own again, which might be a couple of decades yet.  In any case, I have a plan for my retirement, involving a camper van of some kind and a lengthy mooch around Britain's coastline with the camera.

I find London quite affordable tbh, and I doubt I'd find the countryside all that much fun.

Do you find it affordable because you're either:
a) Earning a significant amount more than the rest of the country.
b) Made certain lifestyle choices that you couldn't make outside of London.
c) Have no need to work thanks to the family capital, but choose to do so to stop yourself being bored.

I live in a 4 bedroom house, with views of the moors and the sea, parking for 4 cars and a 3 car garage, large front and rear garden (room enough for 3 sheds and a clothes dryer, BBQ, swing seat and table/chair set). I also have fresh air, and don't ever need to deal with overcrowding.
How much would that cost in London?
On the downside - we don't have a marvellous integrated public transport system, very few shops are open late, few bands play down here and the local economy is reliant on seasonal income.

I'm certainly not a high earner, having enjoyed no pay rise in about 5 years :<
But set against that:
1. I never bought a house, so I'm not bankrupt.
2. I don't drive, which I think is the most expensive hobby you can have in London apart from crack.
3. I quit smoking (again) so I'm feeling pretty flush!
4. I have yet to knock up any unfortunate young ladies (3rd most expensive hobby)

When I finally wrest a mahoosive pay rise from my freakishly tight fisted boss (or gtfo), I may attempt something bank busting like a car or house purchase. I will then promptly not find London affordable. Round here, pensions seem to be taken in the form of buying a house, then selling and moving to the country when you are old.

Depends what you class as London. Enfield is "Greater London'.

We're open all year round and it's peaceful and relaxing pretty much the whole year, apart from when the screaming assholes (and their kids ;) ) are off school! But you wouldn't wanna do that anyway.
