A new survey has found that 80 per cent of gamers are willing to wear 3D glasses to play games.

That's according to research from the U-Decide Initiative, which surveyed 735 traditional gamers that don't own 3D equipment as part of "an industry wide effort" backed by groups including EA, Ubisoft and the S-3D Gaming Alliance.

When glasses are no longer necessary, the number of respondents that said they'd be willing to participate in 3D gaming rose only 12 per cent, suggesting the need to wear glasses isn't a significant barrier to 3D gaming.

65 per cent of those surveyed already owned an HDTV, while 35 per cent said they were looking to buy a 3D one within the next two years.

Microsoft said earlier today that it's "not ignoring" 3D gaming, but suggested that the glasses-based tech used by PS3 is not "mainstream".

I suspect it comes down to how the question was asked. And I also suspect those people wouldn't tolerate them for too long either :?

Willing to wear them: Yes
Willing to pay for them: No

They're too expensive for a non essential item.

Games are probably the best use of 3D TV. I think that 3D games would be very good but none of the games that I really like would benefit.
